Optim Neurosurgery is the only practice in middle Georgia offering the full spectrum of Minimally-Invasive Surgery (MIS). MIS provides for optimal outcomes with:

  • Faster recovery
  • Less time in the hospital (since many are done as outpatient)
  • Minimal down time/missed work
  • Less blood loss
  • Lower infection rates
  • Less pain
  • Smaller scars
  • Less time under anesthesia

Endoscopic spine surgery is the next generation of “ultra minimally invasive” spine care. Endoscopic rhizotomy is a procedure to eliminate back pain due to arthritis, injury, disc generation, scoliosis, and other sources of back pain. The procedure is done through a 6mm endoscope (leaves an almost invisible scar), without general anesthesia in most cases, is done as an outpatient, and provides 4 years of pain relief on average. This is covered by all insurance, including Medicare.

Endoscopic discectomy is performed through a 6mm endoscope with minimal muscle disruption, minimal post-op pain, near-zero blood loss and infection, and no bone removal as in traditional discectomies. Endoscopic fusion is done through an 8.5 mm endoscope and two one-inch incisions. Those who are candidates have superior outcomes, fewer complications, a rapid return to activities, and this can be performed as an outpatient or with a single night hospital stay.

These services, along with the full spectrum of non-surgical back and neck pain treatments, are what separates Optim Neurosurgery from all other spine care practices in middle Georgia.

Patient education is a very important part of healthcare. We believe that a patient’s understanding of their condition as well as their treatment plan is beneficial as it allows the patient to become involved in their healthcare as well as their own well-being. We pride ourselves in the time we spend with patients and their families so they understand the “what’s wrong?” and the “what do we do to fix it?” at every visit. Before any procedure or surgery, our skilled staff will educate patients on what to expect prior to, during, and after treatment. Our staff is available to answer phone calls with patient questions as well, should the need arise.

It is helpful to our providers for you to bring any recent imaging (within one year), such as x-rays, MRI’s, CT scans and the reports for those images to your first visit. Only imaging and reports of the affected body part or region are necessary.

At each visit you will be given further instructions for follow up and what to expect. Feel free to call our office with any questions between appointments should the need arise.
