John Burk, MS, AT, LAT, ITAT, is the athletic trainer at South Effingham High School in Guyton, GA.

He started with Optim Sports Medicine in May 2010 as the athletic trainer for Swainsboro High School for two years before moving to SEHS in the Summer of 2012. He is one of three regional coordinators for the Optim Sports Medicine Program. As such, he assists and coordinates coverage for the schools in and around the Savannah area.

At South Effingham, John provides coverage for all sports and their respective events on campus, as well as away coverage for the football team. He also conducts ImPACT testing for all contact sports.

John received a Master of Science in Kinesiology-Athletic Training in 2010 from Georgia Southern University where his thesis was focused on concussions. His research was published in the July 2013 edition of the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine.

While at Georgia Southern, John worked with the men’s soccer and women’s volleyball programs. Prior to attending Georgia Southern University, John received his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training in 2008 at Mars Hill University in North Carolina, where he also played on the men’s soccer team.

He became a certified athletic trainer in 2008.
