THE FIRST IN SAVANNAH TO PERFORM OUTPATIENT KNEE REPLACEMENT

OVER 700 SUCCESSFUL TOTAL JOINT SURGERIES… AND COUNTING!

Known regionally for exceptional outcomes and lower risk of infection, we are proud to call the Optim Surgery Center home for the doctors at Optim Orthopedics. We offer a unique experience by integrating our all-in-one approach which includes an on-site medical clinic, therapy and imaging with one goal in mind – to get you back to you as quickly as possible. Optim Surgery Center has five state-of-the-art operating rooms, two pain management procedure rooms, and five private recovery suites. From evaluation and education to surgery, recovery and individualized rehabilitation, this facility offers you everything in one location, all in a comfortable, concierge-type setting.

With a team of orthopedic specialists who operate here, we offer the full spectrum of out-patient orthopedic procedures. Our extensive team of orthopedic surgeons provide hip, knee and shoulder arthroscopic surgeries here. They also commonly treat ACL and PCL injuries requiring repair or reconstruction. Cartilage repair and meniscus repair or transplants are also performed in this facility. Our foot and ankle and hand surgeons can also be found performing their surgical procedures at Optim Surgery Center.

Our surgery center is unique, however, in that we are also able to provide joint replacement and complex spine procedures in a same-day setting. This is where patients check-in for their procedure and go home the same day. Patients like knowing that they can be in the comfort of their own home and bed with family or friends versus an overnight stay in a hospital. Because we offer same-day procedures, our anesthesia team is specially trained in nerve blocks to provide comfort and pain relief after surgery. Optim Surgery Center is the premiere center for same-day joint replacement and spine surgeries. And, for those patients that want a little extra time before going home, our surgery center has an extended 23-hour recovery option. Our entire team is specially trained in the unique needs of the orthopedic patient. They are dedicated to you and helping you get back to feeling good and doing the things you love!

A TOP CHOICE FOR JOINT REPLACEMENT

Because we strive for the highest quality of care, Optim Surgery Center is certified by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, which measures the quality of its services and performance against nationally recognized Standards. People with joint pain from osteoarthritis or arthritis of the knee, hip, shoulder or ankle can expect the top-trained surgeons and the newest and most innovative joint replacement procedures available today.

The surgeons at Optim Orthopedics are experienced in hip replacement, full and partial knee replacement, ankle replacement, shoulder replacement and reverse total shoulder replacement.

At the Orthopedic Joint & Spine Institute at Optim Surgery Center, our joint replacement and sports medicine teams at Optim Orthopedics also specializes in minimally invasive approaches to knee replacement, as well as, the anterior approach to hip replacement. In this procedure, the hip replacement takes place through the front of the hip joint with an incision on the upper thigh instead of the traditional approach, which has a larger incision on the side of the hip. With the anterior approach the surgeon is usually able to separate the muscles versus cutting through them. While this approach is not ideal for every patient, it is a great option for the right patient, as it allows for a smaller incision, often a quicker recovery and less pain.

Another minimally invasive hip procedure we perform at Optim Surgery Center is hip arthroscopy, also known as a hip scope. Notably, Optim has the only two surgeons between the South Carolina Low Country, Atlanta, GA and Jacksonville, FL who perform hip arthroscopy. We’ve found hip arthroscopy or hip scope procedures to be very effective in treating conditions such as impingement, labral tears, cartilage damage, snapping hip syndrome, and synovitis. Loose pieces of cartilage and/or bone that break off sometimes remain in the joint and may be removed arthroscopically.

At Optim Surgery Center our doctors also offer the MAKO robotic-arm assisted joint replacement. Using this, the surgeon is able to pre-plan your joint replacement by getting a CT Scan prior to your surgery to create a 3D computer model of your joint. Doing this allows the surgeon to precisely determine the size of the implant they will use, the angle of placement and create a customized plan that determines the exact fit of the joint implant to you. Surgeons who use this method, often feel that the patient has a better fit of the new joint and ultimately that will lead to less wear and tear on the new joint as they age. Many people wonder if the robot does the surgery, the truth is, no. The surgeon does the surgery and uses a robotic arm to guide the cutting and shaving of the bone in the exact manner that was planned on the 3D computer model. That is why it is considered to be more precise than the hand alone. The MAKO robotic-arm assisted joint replacement can be used for full knee replacements, as well as, hip replacements.

The entire team is focused on providing joint replacement in a personal setting using state-of-the-art technology. We are partnered with Optim Orthopedics, a distinguished practice composed of the region’s premier orthopedic surgeons. Experience the Optim difference!

Total Knee Replacement

This procedure restores function to a severely damaged knee. Most commonly, it is used to repair a knee that has been damaged by arthritis. During the procedure, the surgeon replaces the damaged portions of the knee with artificial parts. These parts consist of a metal femoral component, a metal tibial component and a plastic spacer. A small plastic patellar component may also be used. In preparation for the procedure, anesthesia is administered and the patient is positioned.  Read More

Total Hip Replacement

During this procedure, your damaged hip joint is replaced with implants that recreate the ball and socket of a healthy hip. This can reduce pain and restore your hip function. In preparation for the procedure, you are anesthetized. The surgeon creates an incision to expose your hip joint. The damaged head of your femur is removed. The surgeon carefully removes damaged cartilage and bone from your hip socket. A metal socket is placed into the cavity. Read More
