A TOP CHOICE FOR JOINT REPLACEMENT

THOUSANDS OF SUCCESSFUL TOTAL JOINT REPLACEMENT SURGERIES… AND COUNTING!

Because we strive for the highest quality of care, Optim Surgery Center and Optim Medical Center-Tattnall are top choices for Joint Replacement. People with joint pain from osteoarthritis or arthritis of the knee, hip, shoulder or ankle can expect the top-trained surgeons and the newest and most innovative joint replacement procedures available today.

We are known regionally for exceptional outcomes and lower risk of infection and we are proud to have surgeons who are specially trained and experienced in hip replacement, full and partial knee replacement, minimally invasive knee replacement, Mako SmartRoboticsTM and OMNIBotics® joint replacement, ankle replacement, shoulder replacement and reverse total shoulder replacement.

The anterior approach to hip replacement is a minimally invasive approach to replacing the hip joint and takes place through the front of the hip joint with an incision on the upper thigh instead of the traditional approach, which has a larger incision on the side of the hip. With the anterior approach the surgeon is usually able to separate the muscles versus cutting through them. While this approach may not ideal for every patient, it is a great option for the right patient, as it allows for a smaller incision, often a quicker recovery and less pain.

At Optim Surgery Center and Optim Medical Center-Tattnall our doctors also offer robotic-assisted joint replacement. Using the Mako SmartRobotics technology, the surgeon is able to pre-plan your joint replacement by getting a CT Scan prior to your surgery to create a 3D computer model of your joint. Doing this allows the surgeon to precisely determine the size of the implant they will use, the angle of placement and create a customized plan that determines the exact fit of the joint implant to you. Surgeons who use this method, often feel that the patient has a better fit of the new joint and ultimately that will lead to less wear and tear on the new joint as they age. Many people wonder if the robot does the surgery, the truth is, no. The surgeon does the surgery and uses a robotic arm to guide the cutting and shaving of the bone in the exact manner that was planned on the 3D computer model. That is why it is considered to be more precise than the hand alone. The Mako SmartRobotics joint replacement can be used for full and partial knee replacements, as well as, hip replacements.

Total Knee Replacement

This procedure restores function to a severely damaged knee. Most commonly, it is used to repair a knee that has been damaged by arthritis. During the procedure, the surgeon replaces the damaged portions of the knee with artificial parts. These parts consist of a metal femoral component, a metal tibial component and a plastic spacer. A small plastic patellar component may also be used. In preparation for the procedure, anesthesia is administered and the patient is positioned.  Read More

Total Hip Replacement

During this procedure, your damaged hip joint is replaced with implants that recreate the ball and socket of a healthy hip. This can reduce pain and restore your hip function. In preparation for the procedure, you are anesthetized. The surgeon creates an incision to expose your hip joint. The damaged head of your femur is removed. The surgeon carefully removes damaged cartilage and bone from your hip socket. A metal socket is placed into the cavity. Read More
